Robyn's Flat Stanley has been spotted in Ridge Spring, SC

March 8, 2012

Dear Robyn,

Thank you so much for sharing Flat Stanley with me.  He is really cute.  You did a great job with your coloring.  I am excited about all the places he will get to go with me.

Flat Stanley arrived Saturday afternoon via snail mail.  Even though he is very flat, I think the snail mail process flattened him a little more, and he really needed a day to stretch and get his shape back a little.  Thus, I let him stay home from church, but he will go with me next week.

After giving him Sunday to rest and refresh from riding snail mail, I took him out Monday evening for supper.  We went to O’Charley’s for supper.  The first picture I am sending to you is of him standing by the Twisted Chips.  He could hardly wait to dig in.
While we were eating supper, I got a call from your dad that Reagan had fallen off her horse and gotten stepped on.  Your parents were waiting at Lexington Urgent Care with her.  So, of course, we headed there.  You will see a picture of Flat Stanley with Reagan and your dad in the waiting room.

Today, Wednesday, we went to Ridge Spring to manage Olde Treasures Antique Shop for the day.  I have enclosed a picture of Flat Stanley in front of the shop.  He was standing on an antique porch table.  The wind was very strong, and it blew him off twice before I could get a good picture of him.  He had fun with the wind.  I think he enjoyed flying in the wind for a few seconds.  I introduced him to several of my customers.  They had met other folks like him through their nieces and grandchildren and were really interested in the places he may go.

On the way home from Ridge Spring, we stopped at a peach orchard.  The peach trees are just beginning to bloom, and I thought he would enjoy a peach blossom up close and personal.  As you can see from the pictures, the wind played a part in this adventure too.  It blew him sideways a couple of times, but he got his balance and got upright for a picture.  Just like any other child, Flat Stanley loved climbing a tree and hanging out on a limb.  What fun!  If he is not careful, he may end up with a broken arm like Reagan’s.  A cast on Flat Stanley just doesn’t seem possible; does it?

If I can remember, I will take him to Iron Fit tomorrow.  We have to leave rather early, so I don’t know if he will be up to it, but we will try.  I am just wondering what he might find to do there.  One never knows, but I will let you know.

Well that is all for tonight.  I will send the pictures to you next.  I’ll be in touch with news of our next adventures soon.

Love,
Mammie

Our Project Begins!

We are a homeschool family located in Lexington, SC. Our younger children just read the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In this funny story a boy named Stanley Lambchop is flattened by a bulletin board. He doesn’t get hurt but the doctor measures him at four feet tall, a foot wide and a half an inch thick! Stanley has many adventures. He gets mailed to California, flies like a kite and even pretends to be a painting to catch sneak thieves. In the end his brother inflates him back to normal with a bicycle pump.
We will use Flat Stanley to learn about writing, geography, language and math. If you are reading this blog, then you have received a Flat Stanley! Please take him somewhere in your town and write to our school telling us about where you take him. If you have any pictures of Flat Stanley on his trip or postcards to share, please mail them along with your letter. We have created this blog to record your letters and pictures of Stanley's travels. You can check in from time to time to see where Stanley is and how we are using him in our studies.
If you do not wish to mail him any further, please send him back to our school so we can add him to our bulletin board display.
Thank you for your participation!
